Do Acacia wood make good cutting boards?

Acacia wood is heavy, dense, durable, and has natural antimicrobial, making it perfect as cutting boards. It’s rich in natural oils making it naturally water-resistant and resistant to fungus.

How do I keep my cutting board sanitised?

  • Use a cloth soaked in white vinegar to wipe, let it sit for a few mins. then rinse.
  • Rub with lemon to clean and deodorise.
  • Rub with coarse salt or baking soda, let it sit for a few mins. then rinse.

What if my cutting board is stained, discoloured or smells bad?

Can I use the same cutting board used for vegetables for fish or poultry?

The La gourmet Acacia chopping board is a dual-purpose cutting board. Both sides are strong, durable and usable, you can use it as a cutting board and serving tray.

There are cut/knife marks on my chopping board, is this normal?

Knife marks are actually signs that your wood chopping board is not harder than your knife, as it’ll be the only durable material that protects both the knife and countertop as you prepare your meals.

 

Why do I have to oil my wood chopping board?

Regular oiling is vital to the health and durability of your board. It prevents unwanted moisture where bacteria can thrive and protects your board from drying out, which can lead to cracking.

How often do I need to oil my wood chopping board?

It depends on how often you use your board. If you use it everyday, oil it every two weeks, or else, you may oil it every 3 weeks or as soon as it looks dry.

What type of oil should I use?

Use only food grade mineral oil to oil your cutting board Don’t use vegetable oil (olive, sunflower or corn) or coconut oil as it can turn rancid.

Can I use cooking oils (vegetable, canola, olive, corn, etc.) to oil my board?

No. These types of oils are high in fat, and once oxidised, can become rancid transferring an unpleasant smell into the wood.

Can I put my board in the dishwasher?

Hand-wash only, please! Wood products should never be placed in the dishwasher. This will ruin the board and cause it to crack and warp.

Can I place hot pots and pans on my board?

It’s not designed to hold hot pots and pans, and should not be used for this purpose. Concentrated high heat can leave burn marks on your board. Use a trivet or pot coaster instead.

How do I get rid of food odours or stubborn stains?

Use cut lemon as the ascorbic acid in the lemon reacts and oxidises organic materials (bacteria and fats) that are the cause of smells and stains.

Do your cutting board show scratches?

Yes, our cutting boards will develop knife marks over time. This is normal and preserves your knife blades.

Is it safe to use?

Yes. We only use FDA & LFGB certified and approved materials.

What is the double-sided use design?

It has a grooved side for drippings and a full area side for prepping fruit, vegetables or use for for servings.

Do you offer a warranty?

No. Wood boards require care and our warranty doesn’t cover improper care and use.

What is a Microbial cutting board?

Produced with 46 layers of high density, compressed wood fibre composites for zero porosity with antimicrobial coating, which kills or slows the spread of microorganisms.

How to maintain or care for microbial cutting board?

It requires no special maintenance after use. Just clean it with water and put it in a ventilated place to air dry.

Will it damage the knife?

Unlike other high hardness cutting boards in the market wood fibre cutting board is relatively soft to the knife and prevents the sharp blade from being dull.

Is it safe to use?

The Anti Microbial cutting board’s produced with FDA & LGFB certified materials only, and are made through high temperature and high pressure process. Most importantly, it’s made without any glue.

Is it dishwasher safe?

Yes. The La gourmet Anti Microbial Cutting Board is dishwasher safe.

How can I avoid cross contamination?

  • Use separate cutting boards for seafood, meat, poultry and produce.
  • After cutting raw meat or seafood, immediately clean the board with vinegar, coarse salt or baking soda and rinse with water.

After washing, let it air-dry before storing. Always store the board standing.
